NovusCMS v4.5 RC2 is ready to download. -- Jul 31 2008, 12:37 PM

Current release: v4.5 Release Candidate 2

We are happy to announce that NovusCMS v4.5 RC2 is ready to download.

Now you can try our latest enhancements to NovusCMS. This release candidate addresses the following issues:

  • Notifications ~ There was an issue with notifications (a email sent to an Editor whenever a Writer sent a page to be published) not functioning in some installations. This issue has been eliminated.
  • Content Templates ~ Users with a start node below Content could not see the "Templates" folder that contains all the boiler plate layouts for content. Now, every user can access the "Templates" folder regardless of their security start node.
  • Sorting Users ~ In RC1, users were listed in the order they were entered. This has been modified to make users sort alphabetically.
  • Changing User Status ~ RC1 had a bug that did not allow a user's status to be changed (e.g. from Editor to Writer). This type of change simply did not save. The bug has been eliminated in RC2.
  • Create Button in Users ~ One of the goals for v4.5 was to allow Mac people to use their computer of choice...namely Mac's. In RC1, there was no "Create" button in the Users section. Without a right mouse button, it was impossible to create a new user. RC2 has added a "Create" button to the Users section. Carry on Mac lovers!
  • Logging into NovusCMS with an unknown/non-existent user resulted in a Server Error instead of returning to the log in screen. Problem fixed.
  • Some minor aesthetic enhancements were also included to make the title bars, logos, headers, etc more consistent.

Prerequisite applications include:
  • NovusCMS v4.x
  • ASP.NET AJAX 1.0
  • .NET Framework Version 2

Steps to Install:
  1. Install prerequisites
    1. .NET 2
    2. ASP.NET AJAX 1.0
  2. Reboot your server
  3. Download the self-extracting upgrade executable file
  4. Create a backup of your NovusCMS installation.
  5. Extract the upgrade over the original installation of NovusCMS v4.x (Do not extract the files and Copy/Paste to replace the old NovusCMS v.4.x)
  6. Open your IIS by going to Start
  7. Open the folder of your backup of the NovusCMS and open web.config in a text editor (such as notepad). Go to the line that starts with "

How to effectively submit a ticket. -- Feb 4 2008, 9:20 PM

Here are a couple tips and tricks to making the most out of the new NovusCMS Help Desk:

Provide us with a step-by-step guide to consistently replicate your issue.

For example, compare the following:

"I can't add a hyperlink"

"I am trying to add a hyperlink to the text on my webpage, Using NovusCMS in Internet Explorer v6, I always do the following: 1) type the text that I want to be a hyperlink, 2) highlight the text with my cursor, and 3) click the hyperlink button on the NovusCMS button bar. Everytime I click the hyperlink button, my computer audibly hiccups, the screen goes blank for 30 seconds, and when it comes back on, appears as if nothing ever happened."

Include Screen Shots
This can be accomplished by holding the ALT key and simultaneously clicking the Prnt Scrn (print screen) button. This puts an image of your active window into your computers clipboard; you can then paste the image into your favorite image editor (e.g. Microsoft Paint), save as a .jpg, and upload with your ticket.

Communicate Correspond Collaborate
You should receive an email whenever a technician responds to your issue. Respond back. Let us know that your issue is resolved or if the suggestion did not work, or if you just like hearing the sound of your keyboard click. We can't close the ticket until you say so and we can't close the ticket without your cooperation. The process of working through an issue often requires considerable feedback. So if you don't receive an email within a day or so, you should log back into the Help Desk and check. If a technician has responded to your issue, you should wonder if our email got lost in your spam filter or something (something only you can fix). If a technician has not responded, you can always give us a nudge to hurry up. Either way, don't stop the 2-way communication until you are 100% satisfied and your ticket is closed!

Welcome to NovusCMS Help Desk -- Dec 14 2007, 9:18 PM

The NovusCMS team welcomes you to our new Help Desk. You might be asking "Why do I want a 'new Help Desk?'" Well here are just a few of the reasons we thought this would help:

  • Big Brother is Watching -- we can track your request for help, our technicians response (accuracy and speed), your satisfaction, and our performance. This keeps us accountable to you!
  • Little Brother is Watching -- before you even ask a "silly question" you can search the new Knowledge Base to see if anyone else has had the same curiosity. Also, search through old tickets to see if someone else has had the same problem and see if their solution would work for you.
  • Equal Access -- when a technician contacts you about a problem, they'll have the entire history of that issue right on screen. You shouldn't have to explain yourself over and over when your issue gets escalated to a higher level programmer.
  • Single File, No Cutting in Line -- Without a standard queue, our technicians seem to get pulled in so many directions. How do we prioritize it all? Well, now we can fairly and equitably tackle each request in the order submitted.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns about the new Help Desk. We hope you enjoy!
